Sheriff

With the resignation of Sheriff Clint Hammonds, the Commissioner's Court of Mills County appointed an interim sheriff on December 1, 2023. The interim sheriff is Anthony Pool, he will fulfill the remainder of Sheriff Hammonds term. Sheriff Pool will execute the duties of sheriff of Mills County to the best of his ability and do what is right for the citizen's of Mills County. We wish him well in his new endeavor.

System maintenance

The Mills County Sheriff Dept phones could possibily be out of service from 9:00am to 12:00 noon on Thursday, November 17,2022 for system maintenance. 911 will not be affected.

Employment

The Mills County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for Night Shift Jailer/Dispatcher. Applicant must be 18 years old or older and have a High School Diploma or GED. Applications can be obtained at the Sheriff's Office or this website.

COUNTY COURT

On March 29, 2022 a jury found William Williams guilty of Driving While Intoxicated/Alcohol Concentration 0.15 nor more/With Prior Conviction and Unlawful Carrying Weapon. He was sentenced 1 year in county jail but sentence was suspended for 24 months with condition of 30 days in county jail to be served on weekends.

April 6, 2022

Guerchon Kousmha plead guilty to a charge of Driving While License Invalid and received 30 days unsupervised deferred adjudication probation.

Leona Gonzales received 60 days unsupervised pre-trial diversion on a charge of Possession of Marijuana <2oz.

Cameron Martinez plead guilty to a charge of Possession of Marijuana <2oz and received deferred adjudication probation for 12 months and a charge of Possession of a Dangerous Drug was dismissed.

Jakob Miller plead guilty to a charge of Possession of Marijuana <2oz and received a pre-trial diversion with 60 days unsupervised probation.

Earl Covington received 60 days unsupervised deferred adjudication probation on a charge of Accident Involving Damage to Vehicle (Leaving scene of accident).

Marshal Smith received 60 days unsupervised deferred adjudication probation with pre-trial diversion on a charge of Possession of Marijuana <2oz.

Cranger Harris plead guilty to a charge of Driving While Intoxicated and received 12 months deferred adjudication probation.

 

DISTRICT COURT

On 03/16/2022 Keith Boykin was sentenced in District Court to 5 years TDC for Driving While Intoxicated 3rd or More.

On 032/04/2022 Charges were dismissed on Joel Miller, Erin Walton and Jacob Aguirre with charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance PG2. The excuse as given by the District Attorney’s office was that they understand the DPS Lab cant test these substances.

On 03/01/2022 Deputies Kaleb Hopson and Son Drake responded to a vehicle accident. During the investigation 18-year-old Brayden Wray was arrested for Driving Under the Influence. He was later released on $350 bond.

On 03/02/2022 Deputies Justin Guimbellot and Zach Sandlin responded to a report of a Domestic Disturbance. During the investigation 35-year-old Lacy Barrera was arrested for Public Intoxication with other charges possibly pending. She was later released on PR bond.

On 03/04/2022 Deputy Zach Sandlin stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. During the investigation a consent search was conducted and narcotics were located. 19-year-old Diego Luevano was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance PG2 >4g <400g. He was later released on $15,000  bond.

On 03/11/2022 Deputies served a search warrant on a residence on CR 410. During the investigation 39-year-old Susan Savage was arrested on a Brazoria County warrant for Possession of a Controlled Substance PG1 >1g <4g. 63-year-old Curtis Toner was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance PG1 <1g and Possession of drug Paraphernalia. 31-year-old Jason Toner was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance PG1 <1g and Mills County warrants for Burglary of a Habitation and Theft of Metal. 61-year-old Katherine Toner was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance PG1 <1g. Savage was later released to Brazoria County. Curtis Toner was later released on $7,500 bond. Jason Toner remains in custody on $23,500 bond. Katherine Toner was later released on $7,500 bond.

On 03/14/2022 Deputy Son Drake arrested 37-year-old Ricardo Alvarez during a traffic stop. Alvarez was charged with No Driver’s License and Operate Unregistered Vehicle. He was later released after paying $400 in fines.

On 03/16/2022 30-year-old Wayne Romine was taken into custody after being sentenced to 5 years TDC in District Court for Assault Bodily Injury Fam/Household Member 2 Within 12 months.

On 03/17/2022 28-year-old Todd Stewart turned himself in to the Mills County Jail to begin serving a sentence to SAFP for the offenses of Possession of a Controlled Substance PG1 >1g <4g and Tamper/Fabricate Physical Evidence W/Intend to Impair.

On 03/21/2022 Deputies Zach Sandlin and Justin Guimbellot responded to a brush fire. During the investigation 60-year-old James Warden was arrested on a Blue Warrant for Evading Arrest W/Vehicle. He remains in custody.

On 03/21/2022 53-year-old Keith Boykin was taken into custody after being sentenced to 5 years TDC for Driving While Intoxicated 3rd or More.

On 03/23/2022 Deputy Son Drake responded to a person with possible mental issues. During the investigation 45-year-old Mark Ferdin was arrested and charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was later released on PR bond.

On 03/26/2022 Deputy Zach Sandlin conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle being driven by 19-year-old Neal Lawler. During the encounter Lawler identified himself with an Illinois Driver’s License. A records check revealed the driver’s license was not valid and when asked about it Lawler stated he had accidentally given Deputy Sandlin his fake ID instead of his valid Texas Driver’s License. Lawler was arrested and charged with False Driver’s License/ID. He was later released on $1,500 bond.

On 03/28/2022 Deputy Justin Guimbellot arrested 60-year-old Howard Bailey after responding to a report of an attempted break in at a residence. Bailey was yelling g and banging on the house and resisted when Deputy Guimbellot attempted to detain him. Bailey was subsequently arrested and charges with Public Intoxication and Resist Arrest/Search/Transport. He was also given a Criminal Trespass Warning for the residence. He was later released on $2,500 bond.

On 03/31/2022 Deputies Justin Guimbellot and Zach Sandlin arrested 73-year-old Michael Killey at his residence on a Mills County warrant for Driving While License Invalid W/Previous Conv/Susp/W/O Fin Res. He was later released on PR bond.
